Long name – What does it mean?

A quick search on the internet describes the Ashwagandha root as smelling like a horse because that’s what it means in Sanskrit.

Honestly, if my Ashwagandha supplements smelled like a horse (I am conjuring up the smell of a horse barn at a county fair), I doubt if I would take them.

Though, I will say that they have a natural earthy smell, which is not unappealing to me.

For the plant enthusiast or hobby botanist, Ashwagandha’s scientific name is Withania Somnifera. It is also commonly known as Indian ginseng or winter cherry.

Let’s move on to my personal story.

My Menopause Story

My post-menopausal distress began when I entered a period of retirement transition. Rebel Retiree and I were spending many hours together brainstorming ideas for ways to earn money in retirement.

Even though this was our plan, it caused a lot of stress. The daily grind was getting to me.

There was a lot going on. Everyday dealings with family seemed to create unnecessary drama. My irritability intensified along with my mood swings.

As a post-menopausal woman with hormonal imbalances, I could feel that my system was getting out of whack.

I could sense the hormonal imbalance, much like the experience one has when your period is on its way.

My nerves were frazzled. I was crying more often. I was having embarrassing outbursts. It’s called a menopausal meltdown.

As a student of mindfulness, I was able to place myself out of the picture and observe my actions.

It wasn’t pretty.

This was not a legacy that I wanted to leave!

The vision of me as a menopausal wreck was unacceptable. I had to take action!

The questions in my mind were, “Are there any real solutions for menopause, and what would I take if there are?”

Having tried Black Cohosh for hot flashes and night sweats without success, I took to the internet with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Natural remedies are my preference over prescription drugs. In addition to that, I also have an interest in Ayurvedic medicine.

When my order arrived, I took a capsule. Later that afternoon, I realized that I felt relaxed and in balance – my irritability was gone.

It wasn’t a big “wow” moment – more like when you have a headache, take an aspirin, then sometime later realize your headache is gone.

Admittedly, I was impressed with Ashwagandha’s ability to calm my nerves.

Since taking Ashwagandha, I have seen a noticeable reduction in my menopausal mood swings.

Pro: Verified Purchase – Kyle Wormuth says, “It makes me feel much more calm.”

Con: Verified Purchase – 8dozen states, “This is not a bad formula, and I can’t address the efficacy at this point, but…………the labeling is deceptive in that it’s easy to think that each table is 1950mg Ashwagandha, whereas THREE capsules equal 1950mg Ashwaghanda. I know I’m getting old and not as sharp as I used to be, but I cannot find anywhere on the actual bottle that states how many milligrams are in each capsule. Now, of course, I could do that math but that’s not the point. Each capsule contains one third of 1950 mg of Ashwagandha, or 650 mg.
