Is menopause getting you down? Are you crabby much of the time? Are you struggling with hormonal imbalance and irritability?
Menopause can be a nightmare.
Whereas Ashwagandha can be the dream come true! It’s the best natural remedy for menopause relief.
It’s the solution and natural remedy for balancing your menopausal hormones and improving your mood!
I know because I was suffering from menopausal symptoms until I found Ashwagandha.
It was terrible. I was irritable with family members, even though I’m usually pretty chill. Some days I was so uptight, small slights easily set me off.
The shouting and crying were getting embarrassing. I was feeling overwhelmed!
Because of that, I knew that I had to do something!
I prefer natural remedies, so my internet search took me in that direction.
After carefully researching various herbal remedies, I discovered Ashwagandha and bought a bottle of supplements on Amazon.
It’s no wonder they call it a miracle root. In my humble opinion, it’s the best natural remedy for menopause relief.
I immediately noticed a difference! I felt balance and no longer at the mercy of my hormones.
Because my results with Ashwagandha are so amazing, I think it’s important to share its many benefits with you.
If you’ve ever found a good deal that you wanted to share with your friends, then you will understand how I feel.

Ashwagandha is a medicinal herb dating back centuries.
A plant native to the dry regions of India, Ashwagandha is a powerful herb that has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for dealing with stress, anxiety, lack of focus, swelling, joint pain, and to prevent the effects of aging.
As an adaptogen, it treats the entire body by increasing the body’s ability to resist the damaging effects of stress. It promotes vitality and helps restore the body to a normal functioning state of well being.
As mentioned in my article Natural Remedies for Relieving Retirement Anxiety, a study published in PubMed Central concluded that,
Ashwagandha root extract safely and effectively improves an individual’s resistance towards stress and thereby improves self-assessed quality of life.”
What does Ashwagandha mean in Sanskrit?
A quick search on the internet describes the Ashwagandha root as smelling like a horse because that’s what it means in Sanskrit.
Honestly, if my Ashwagandha supplements smelled like a horse (I am conjuring up the smell of a horse barn at a county fair), I doubt if I would take them.
Though, I will say that they have a natural earthy smell, which is not unappealing to me.
Do you have a green thumb?
For the plant enthusiast or hobby botanist, Ashwagandha’s scientific name is Withania Somnifera. It is also commonly known as Indian ginseng or winter cherry.
If you like cultivating and growing your own medicinal herbs, this article at Balcony Garden Web gives details on how to get started with your own Ashwagandha garden.
Although I do have a vegetable garden and enjoy growing flowers, I prefer buying supplements from Amazon.
My post-menopausal distress began when I entered a period of retirement transition.
Rebel Retiree and I were spending many hours together brainstorming ideas for ways to earn money in retirement.
Even though this was our plan, it caused a lot of stress. The daily grind was getting to me.
There was a lot going on. Everyday dealings with family seemed to create unnecessary drama. My irritability intensified along with my mood swings.
As a post-menopausal woman with hormonal imbalances, I could feel that my system was getting out of whack.
I could sense the hormonal imbalance, much like the experience one has when your period is on its way.
My nerves were frazzled. I was crying more often. I was having embarrassing outbursts. It’s called a menopausal meltdown.
As a student of mindfulness, I was able to place myself out of the picture and observe my actions.
It wasn’t pretty.
This was not a legacy that I wanted to leave!
The vision of me as a menopausal wreck was unacceptable. I had to take action!
The questions in my mind were, “Are there any real solutions for menopause, and what would I take if there are?”
Having tried Black Cohosh for hot flashes and night sweats without success, I took to the internet with a healthy dose of skepticism.
Natural remedies are my preference over prescription drugs. In addition to that, I also have an interest in Ayurvedic medicine.
Determined to find a solution, I searched in the direction of natural and Ayurvedic.
Ashwagandha repeatedly came up in my searches. Furthermore, it looked promising. I delved into the facts and concluded it was a good fit for treating irritability and menopausal mood swings.
Next, I placed an order with Amazon, for Organic India Supplements.
When my order arrived, I took a capsule. Later that afternoon, I realized that I felt relaxed and in balance – my irritability was gone.
It wasn’t a big “wow” moment – more like when you have a headache, take an aspirin, then sometime later realize your headache is gone.
Admittedly, I was impressed with Ashwagandha’s ability to calm my nerves.
Since taking Ashwagandha, I have seen a noticeable reduction in my menopausal mood swings.
This natural remedy for menopause has clearly worked for me and I have shared this knowledge with friends who have thanked me for the information.
Why I think Ashwagandha is the best natural remedy for menopause.
- It’s natural. It balances my hormones without taking HRT or other pharmaceutical drugs.
- I feel relaxed without feeling drowsy.
- My stress and irritability are under control.
- I don’t need to take it all of the time. It works just as well if I give it a rest, then return to taking it when needed.
A few things that I dislike about Ashwagandha.
- Disappointingly, it has done nothing for my night sweats. I still experience a once a month cycle when hot flashes and night sweats become a dreaded nuisance.
- Although many people claim to experience a better night’s sleep after taking Ashwagandha, I do not sleep any better than before. However, my husband takes it at bedtime and says that he sleeps better since doing so. (See my article on the Benefits of Ashwagandha for Men)
Let’s take a look at 3 brands of Ashwagandha supplements to help relieve menopause symptoms.

Con: Verified Purchase – Ester states, I took it for about two weeks and quickly became uneasy and could not sleep. It was a rough two weeks.
No 2. NutraHerbals Organically Grown Ashwagandha W/Black Pepper Extract
NutraHerbals is an Amazon Choice supplement with over 1,000 reviews and has earned a rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars. Its extra strength veggie capsule contains 1200 mg per serving.

Pro: Verified Purchase – Lisa states, “Amazing: I was having literally on the hour hot flashes post menopausally and nothing would touch it. Irritating during the day but impossible at night, could time it like a clock, waking up every hour on the hour. This appears to have stopped them pretty much completely. Some minor surges maybe once or twice within every 24 hours, but able to sleep and feel much more normal. Thank you so much, I will reorder!”
Con: Verified Purchase – Viking2014 says “Did not help my hair shedding and as for my hormone imbalance, I don’t see any difference. Return.”
No. 3. Physicians Choice
Physicians Choice Ashwagandha is a #1 Amazon Best Seller. This product contains 1950mg of Ashwagandha, the highest potency available. It’s an all natural doctor-formulated supplement. And Certified Organic. It has a 4.5 out of 5-star rating and costs $13.28 for 90 gel caps.
Pro: Verified Purchase – Kyle Wormuth says, “It makes me feel much more calm.”
Con: Verified Purchase – 8dozen states, “This is not a bad formula, and I can’t address the efficacy at this point, but…………the labeling is deceptive in that it’s easy to think that each table is 1950mg Ashwagandha, whereas THREE capsules equal 1950mg Ashwaghanda. I know I’m getting old and not as sharp as I used to be, but I cannot find anywhere on the actual bottle that states how many milligrams are in each capsule. Now, of course, I could do that math but that’s not the point. Each capsule contains one third of 1950 mg of Ashwagandha, or 650 mg. Which, in my humble opinion, makes the brand much less of a value than it seems.
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. I could be wrong. 😀”
